Christians, if jesus isn't the messiah...?

i'm saying if, so play along. how would you account for the fact that there isn't a corpse of jesus? would you reason that he did live, but god took his earthly remains anyway? would you reason that his remains were just lost some time between his death and the story of his ascension into heaven made it into the bible? or would you reason that he never existed at all?
